Sustainability at Roeren: We take responsibility!

As a long-established company whose roots date back to 1876, it is only natural for us to take responsibility for future generations. The ecological challenges of our time can only be overcome if everyone does their part – whether private individuals or companies!

We are delighted that many of our partners attach great importance to sustainability. With Roeren HDL as an independent subsidiary of Holz Roeren, you are choosing a company that has been leading the way in sustainability for many years. 

Convincing proof of our efforts is the RAL quality mark for sustainable trade in wood and construction products! This makes us one of the first companies to receive this seal.

Key points of our sustainability strategy:

  • Conservation of resources through recycling management and energy efficiency. The entire Roeren Group (over 80,000 m² of land) is heated by a central wood-fired heating system (biomass plant) that uses waste wood (wood chips, production residues, packaging) as fuel, thus contributing to the conservation of resources.
  • Since 2008, we have been using photovoltaic systems (now with over 800 KWp), which cover a large part of our energy requirements and even allow us to feed almost 500,000 kWh into the public power grid every year.
  • Regional preferences in procurement: We value FSC or PEFC-certified wood products and short transport routes (e.g., spruce industrial wood from Germany instead of Eastern Europe).

  • Social responsibility and employee welfare: From 2026, we will reduce working hours to a 39-hour week, promote permanent employment contracts and flexible working time models – in addition to many internal company benefits.
